Florence Nightingale was born 12th May 1820 in Florence, Italy. She was the daughter of a wealthy landowner and grew up in Derbyshire/Hampshire in England.
Florence - the Lady with the Lamp - is famous for her pioneering work as a nurse in the Crimean War .
She died on 13th August 1910 so this year is the centenary of her death.
