Anniversary of Florence Nightingale's Birthday

Florence Nightingale was born 12th May 1820 in Florence, Italy.  She was the daughter of a wealthy landowner and grew up in Derbyshire/Hampshire in England. Florence - the Lady with the Lamp - is famous for her pioneering work as a nurse in the Crimean War . She died on 13th August 1910 so this year is the centenary of her death. Tom Palmer plays football in the library!

We had a special visitor all day today!  Tom Palmer (the author of "Foul Play") ran some workshops which included a very special kind of library football.  Thanks to all for taking part and particularly the members of staff who were goalies!
