Accelerated Reading or AR is a computerised program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level.
Your teachers will set targets for you each term and every week you will have AR reading in your English lesson.
AR is not just for English! You should aim to be reading everyday - including at home. It's your responsibility to do the best you can.
Who does AR?
All Year 7 and 8 students take part in the Accelerated Reading scheme. Your English teachers and the Librarians will be helping you to use AR to improve your reading skills.
Reading should be fun - choose books you enjoy and you will find the quizzes will seem easy!
Ask one of the librarians to help you find your next book - and if you can't find a book you like, we will try to get something for you.
Remember: You can:
- access the AR website from the desktop icon when you are logged in at school. Note: You can only do quizzes online on a school computer
- check to see if a book is 'quizzed' by going to ARBookFind.
